Nandita is known for her creative energy and powerful emotional range. She has danced Bharatanatyam since 1977, studying since 1981 with Menaka Thakkar and attending master classes in Winnipeg and Toronto with Dr. Thakkar and abhinaya master Kalanidhi Narayan. Nandita performed her arangetram in 1987. She was a member of Winnipeg’s Fusion Dance Theatre from 1984 to 1997, and in 1998 toured with the Menaka Thakkar Dance Company. She has also studied flamenco under Valeri Scannura at Ritmo Flamenco School in Toronto. A founding member of Manohar, Nandita has appeared in many of Manohar’s productions, including The Kingdom of Cards and Au Royaume des Cartes as Prince Siddharth, Krishna Priya as Radha, both the original and restaged Yatra/Journey as Kali and La Bayadère – The Temple Dancer as a Devadasi. An emerging independent choreographer, Nandita’s solo work Alcheminement was presented in part at Montréal’s 2004 Journée de la Culture in collaboration with Kala Bharati. She currently lives in London, Ontario.
