Kanchan began learning Bharatanatyam at the India School of Dance, Music and Theatre at the age of 10. Her initial instructors were Menaka Thakkar, and from 1993 to 1996 Hari Krishnan. She continued her training with Shantha Ponnudurai from 1996, and received her Graduation Certificate in 2000. Kanchan has performed in many community cultural events and competed in national dance competitions. She joined Manohar in 2004. Her role as Dhirdarashtra in The Game marks her second performance with the group.
