Aarti has been a dancer for twenty years. She started learning Kathak at the age of 6 from Madhu Khare at the Nritya Manjaree School of Kathak in Vancouver, B.C. Between 1995 and 2004, as part of her Kathak training, she had the opportunity to study under visiting instructors and renowned Kathak dancers from India, including master classes and intensive workshops by Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj, as well as Saswati Sen, Maulik Shah and Ishira Parikh. In 2001, Aarti danced her Kathak graduation performance in Vancouver, and became a teaching assistant at Nritya Manjaree School. Aarti has also been choreographing for, and competing in cultural shows and folk dance competitions since 1994. Her team, representing Vancouver, won first place at the Western Canada Raas/Garba Dance Competition in 1994, 1998 and 2004.
Aarti has also trained in Flamenco at Centro Flamenco in Vancouver. In 2003 she performed alongside Centro Flamenco founder Rosario Ancer in a Flamenco and Kathak fusion. In 2007 Aarti joined Jhankaar School of Dance in Winnipeg, and is now studying Kathak under Usha Sharma. Jewels will be her first appearance with Manohar.
